"KUGEL!" - a new comedy by Illana Klevansky

In 1982, while still living in South Africa, Illana Hitner Klevansky wrote
"THE KUGEL BOOK", which was reprinted four times and became something of a
cult classic.
The book was a humorous social commentary on the unique qualities of Kugels,
and why they play such an endearing role within the lexicon of Jewish women.
After migrating with her family to Perth in 1985, she started writing and
performing her work and, over 20 years, has written many shows in different
comedy genres.
Her performed works include "The Full Moishe", "Malice in the Palace",
"Esther Queen of the Desert", "WIZO: Voice of Life", "The Wedding Nana" and,
most recently, "Degenerate Housewives".
Illana has been involved in fundraising activities for a variety of causes
and, in 2006, was nominated as "The West Australian Citizen of the Year" for
her contribution to Arts and Culture in WA.
Her new solo show, "KUGEL", is an observational comedy about migration,
marriage, motherhood, menopause, makeovers, matchmaking, machers, machetonim
and being a maven on everything from keeping kosher to kosher sex! It debuts
at the Octagon Theatre on Saturday June 21st 2008, 8:00 pm, for a ONE SHOW ONLY
- all proceeds to WIZO.

"Art at Sols"
29th March 2008
WIZO Ilana's fabulous function,"Art at Sols" saw Sol Raiter present his superb
collection of art and sculpture. A raffle for a Marc Chagall print, which was generously
donated by Sol, was won by Brenda Beilin (see pic below). An elegant antipasto was
followed by a delicious meal at Frances Steinberg's. Many thanks to Sol and Frances
for their hospitality and to everyone who worked so hard to make the event such a success.

WIZO WA Annual General Meeting
10th March 2008
This year our Honorary Solicitor, Mr. Stuart Silbert retired from practice.
WIZO is indebted to him for his devotion and assistance for over 30 years.
Stuart has been a tremendous support to WIZO and his wise counsel has been valued by
us all. Stuart was presented with a Gold Award at the AGM in recognition of his many
years of wonderful service.
