WIZO Australia - Fundraising Update
by Rachel Caplan, Organisation & Fundraising
Chairperson
HOUSE OF DREAMS - SOLD, SOLD, SOLD!
In a matter of months after the May 2007 launch of our
"WIZO House of Dreams"
campaign, all of the 16 rooms have been sold and all naming rights have been
secured for the Outdoor Activities area and for the building itself!
This is an incredible effort! WIZO Australia has rallied its most generous supporters,
with much credit to WIZO NSW for selling the "lion’s share" of the project.
Donations will be acknowledged by an appropriate plaque and with recognition on the
Major Donor Board. A prestigious Dedication Ceremony will be held at
WIZO Ahuzat Yeladim upon completion of the project.
WE'VE BUILT IT _ NOW WE HAVE TO FURNISH IT!
Not resting on our laurels, it is now time for WIZO Australia to gather funds to
furnish this wonderful facility.
At the Black and White Ball Function in Queensland on 16 November, 2007, WIZO Australia
President, Jo Gostin, launched our "House of Dreams" Furnishing Campaign for the
WIZO Ahuzat Yeladim School - WIZO Australia’s flagship project in Israel. All
WIZO State Councils will now be calling on their membership to help raise funds
for the large range of furniture and equipment that is needed.
Classrooms, the Library, offices, meeting rooms, counselling and therapy rooms all now
need to be furnished and equipped!
WIZO PET THERAPY PROGRAM
In an effort to reach out to the "next generation", WIZO Australia will launch a
pilot program in 2007/2008 - in conjunction with the AUJS and AZYC Israel programs.
Our objective is to engage with the young adults of our community with a view to involving
them in our work and laying the groundwork for generational succession. Bouncing off the
successful visits of AUJS and AZYC Israel program participants to Ahuzat Yeladim over the
last two Australian summers, we aim to continue this process on an annual basis.
Together with WIZO Israel, we are preparing the "WIZO VOLUNTEER ISRAEL PROGRAM”
whereby Israel program participants can choose to volunteer at a WIZO institution as a
volunteer. This way, they will have direct contact with the work we do and be inspired
towards an ongoing involvement and commitment to WIZO.
To link this effort to a tangible program, we have initiated the "You’ve Got a Friend”
WIZO Pet Therapy Program – helping to heal children overcome trauma with the help of
a pet friend.
The demand for the program far outweighs the current capacity of the therapy facility.
Funding for this program is ongoing for every school year. All of WIZO Australia will
be encouraged to support this valuable and effective program.

Delegates from around Australia came to Melbourne for WIZO Australia's
Triennial Conference and heard that, while the past year had seen a great
result in terms of funds raised for WIZO Australia's projects in Israel,
there was much still to be done, including an exciting new project -
the WIZO "House of Dreams".
The following two days, it was down to business. Sunday morning saw the launch
of the WIZO "House of Dreams" project which was greeted with an enthusiatic reponse.
This exciting new project came complete with fundraising and marketing tools,
which were developed and presented by Elad Schneor, Creative Director of World WIZO,
so that when delegates return home, they can "hit the ground running".
Delegates then heard again from World WIZO Chairperson, Tova Ben Dov. In a most
articulate and moving manner, she described the "Tachliss" of WIZO's work in Israel
and the many ways by which this work helps those who are most in need and most at risk.
